38th Annual General Meeting

We would like to invite you to our 38th Annual General Meeting Tuesday 5th September 7pm to be held at the clubrooms in Beckenham Park.

Please signal your attendance below, so we can cater accordingly.

We would love as many players, parents and supporters to come to this meeting, its important for the club to have input from our members.. If you would like to join the committee (Senior or Junior), or a working group, please do contact Cat if you have any questions :)

Welcome to our new Senior A debutants

Yesterday our Senior A team were back to Two day cricket, we welcomed Jayden Ball, as Wicket keeper and we welcome Bradley Entwistle back to the side, having played a One Day game for us previously. Bradley and Jayden are both Metro rep U17 players (team pictured)

At Southern we strive to provide opportunities to young players, Bradley and Jayden are both still at high school, and are playing for us over Christmas and when available during the school year. They are a vital addition to our team having lost a couple of batters to injury.

Bradley had a tough outing, with an interesting lbw decision but invaluable experience batting at 3. Jayden took 5 catches as keeper, and made 32 in his first game. Well done Jayden!

We look forward to working with more youth players over the coming seasons.

Results

Some great scores on Saturday, Was great to have some sunshine. With not a lot of cricket been played so far, it was great to see all of our teams out. Not as much winning as we would like, but great scores all around.

Seniors got very very close!! Coming up just 10 runs short of New Brightons 230 posted at Beckenham, the result gives the Dave Banks Memorial trophy that NBCC and SDCC play for every game, back to NBCC for the year. This trophy has played ping pong between the clubs the last few seasons. A standout by Matt Fielding bringing up our first century of the year. 450 runs, and 16 wickets in 90 overs made for a great days cricket.

3C 4A Gold had a good win over OBC 179 - 90

4A Blackhawks had a high scoring match against Parklands, with Parklands chasing down 156, to finish on 158/8.

4B Sunrisers also had a high scoring match, ending just shy of the 210 posted by Richmond on 186.

Blue Summit Construction + Southern Districts Cricket Club

We are blessed in New Zealand to have amazing outdoors, along with our children we love to get out and enjoy them. However we also have one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world and we are the least protected from the ozone layer. So this year Southern Districts Cricket club have teamed up with Blue Summit Construction to sponsor the young players in the club and ensure they are being sun smart this summer while enjoying our amazing outdoors – and learning the skills to become future Black Caps and White Ferns.

You may ask what a building company knows about being sun smart? Well, when building new homes, architectural homes or even putting an extension onto an existing home our builders are outside for a large part of the sunny days we have. This puts them at higher risk, compared to those that work indoors, of skin cancers. So we make sure they’re protected for their days and weeks in the sun. We supply our builders with sun cream, protective clothing, hats and, from this year, they will get medically screened for melanoma detection.

The team at Blue Summit Construction are as passionate about developing young cricketers as we are and are sponsoring Southern Districts Cricket Club’s junior players by supplying hats for each young player in the club this year.

Please support Blue Summit Construction by visiting their website, downloading their free building resource and recommending them to family and friends for their next building project.

Together Southern Districts Cricket Club and Blue Summit Construction are keeping our kids sun safe this cricket season. See you at the club rooms.
